But first, it\u2019s helpful to know how to locate your AVIF images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where are AVIF Images Located?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>AVIF images are stored in the same folder as the original format of the images. For example, if the original image is located at <code>wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/image.jpg<\/code>, its AVIF version will be at <code>wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/image.jpg.avif<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delete AVIF Images by Restoring to Original<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The easiest way to delete AVIF images is by restoring your images to their original versions using the Imagify plugin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to your <strong>Media Library<\/strong> or <strong>Bulk Optimization<\/strong> in Imagify, and select the option to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/imagify.io\/documentation\/restore-images-original\/\">Restore Original Images<\/a><\/strong>. This will automatically delete the AVIF versions of those images.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you want to prevent future AVIF images from being generated, go to the <strong>Imagify settings<\/strong> under the <strong>Next-Gen Formats<\/strong> section and toggle <strong>AVIF generation<\/strong> to &#8220;Off.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the Next-Gen format is disabled, you can re-optimize your images without generating new AVIF versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delete AVIF Images Using an FTP Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can delete AVIF versions of images by connecting to your website\u2019s server using an FTP program. This will allow you to delete AVIF files individually or in groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use your FTP program to search for <code>.avif<\/code> or <code>*.avif<\/code> to locate all the AVIF images on your site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be cautious as this search will return any file with <code>.avif<\/code> in its name or URL, so double-check before mass deleting.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delete AVIF Images Using an SSH\/Terminal Command<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have SSH access to your server, you can use a command to quickly delete all WebP images.
